Abstract

This research aims to analyze the permanent deformation (rutting) behavior of modified Asphalt Concrete Wearing Course (AC-WC) mixtures using Ethylene Vinyl Acetate (EVA) and Fly Ash Bottom Ash (FABA) additives. The evaluation was conducted using the Wheel Tracking Machine (WTM. The Optimum Asphalt Content (OAC) for the standard AC-WC mixture (using penetration grade 60/70 asphalt) was determined to be 5.65% by total weight of the mixture. For the modified AC-WC mixture incorporating EVA and FABA, the best performance was observed in Variation 2, with a composition of EVA 1%, Fly Ash 0.25%, and Bottom Ash 0.75%. This variation not only met all Marshall parameter specifications but also showed better performance compared to the standard mixture. Notably, the fly ash content was lower than bottom ash in the optimal mix.The permanent deformation test using the Wheel Tracking Machine at 60°C revealed a significant improvement in rutting resistance for the modified mixture. The dynamic stability values for the modified AC-WC mixture reached 15,750.00 passes/mm and 15,751.04 passes/mm, while the standard AC-WC mixture only achieved 5,488.64 passes/mm and 5,486.18 passes/mm. These results indicate a much higher resistance to permanent deformation when using EVA and FABA as additives. In conclusion, the modification of AC-WC mixtures with EVA and FABA significantly enhances rutting resistance and mixture stability, contributing to longer pavement service life.
