Abstract

This research aims to study the effect of supplying compost and anorganic fertilizers on soil Chemical characteristic, growth and yield of sweet com (Zea mays on sacharata Sturt) on Ultisol This research has been conducted at Agribisnis experiment Garden of Agricultural Faculty, Sriwijaya University from September until December 2010. Soil samples ware analyzed at Chemistry, Biology and Soil Fertility Laboratory Agricultural Faculty, Sriwijaya, University, Indralaya. Experimental design applied was Factorial Randomize Completely Block Design with two treatment factors and three replication. The two factors of treatment were compost rate which consisted of 0, 5, 10, 15 ton ha"1 and NPK fertilizers, 1 and 0,5 recommendation dosage for sweet com. The result showed that supplying of compost significantly increased soil Chemical characteristic, growth and yield of sweet com (Zea mays sacharata Sturt). Supplying of anorganic fertilizers significantly decreased P-Bray and yield of sweet com but not significantly decreased N-total and K-dd on soil. Supplying compost of 10 ton ha-1 gave the best increased soil Chemical characteristic and yield of sweet com (Zea mays sacharata Sturt)
