Abstract
The objective of this research was to know the interspecies crossing success rate on three species of pepper plant and to select the parental which have the potential success of crossbreeding as a female (gynoecium) and male (androecium) to used in crossing. The research were conducted from December 2014 up to August 2015 at greenhouse in Agronomy Department, Agriculture Faculty, Sriwijaya iversity, Indralaya. The research combined five varieties from three species of pepper with 14 breeding combinations. The five varieties species were Capsicum annum; Red Chili (K), Jalapeno Pepper (J), and Serrano Pepper (S); Capsicum frutescens; Bird's eye Chili (R); and Capsicum chinense; Habanero Pepper (H). The result showed that the combination of Serrano Pepper and Bird's eye Chili was the highest percentage on crossing ability 50%; Jalapeno Pepper was the best on fruit weight (27,67 g), fruit volume (37,50 cm3), seed’s amount (103 seeds); the combination of Red Chili and Habanero Pepper was the hottest (650 SU). Crossing ability interspecies hybridization on three chili peppers species gave information that interspecies hybridization of chili pepper was possible. The highest interspecies hybridization percentage was found in combination of Serrano Pepper and Bird's eye Chili (50%).
