Abstract
The purpose of this research was to utilize solar panel as an energy source for fan to operate solar dryer. This research was conducted at Agricultural Technology Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University, from April 2015 until October 2015. This research method was consisted of three stages : equipment design, control system and equipment assemblying, and equipment testing. The stage of equipment design was control system and solar dryer fabrication. The stage of control system and solar dryer assemblying was set up of control system to solar dryer. The last stage was testing the equipment covering of operation power according to operation time of equipment, adsorbed power by solar panel, air discharge from fan, and reduction in sample weight loss. During observation for six days, fan control system showed that the network operated fairly good, but needs some modification to increase efficiency. The result of the research showed that the solar panel at 100 Wp could operated the fan with drying time of 8 hour per days during six days. Power consumption for operating the fan for six days was 158.25 Watt and power consumption according to fan operation and microcontroller was 172.39 Watt. Power lost according to equipment operation was 4,627.61 Watt. The highest air discharge during six days was between 13.00 WIB until 14.00 WIB. The highest intensity of solar radiation during six days was 611.13 Watt m-2 at 14.00 WIB. The biggest reduction in weight loss of sample was 0.22 gram in the third day of sample drying.
