Abstract
The incidence of coronary heart disease (CHD) and hypertension is high in South Sumatra, Indonesia. Hypertension is an important risk factor of CHD associated with a decrease in endothelial function. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 60% of death from cardiovascular disease is caused by CHD. Objective: This study aims to analyze the relationship between hypertension and CHD in RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. Methods: This study is an analytic study with cross sectional design study. Sampling was done by collecting data throughout the medical records of heart disease patients in the department of internal medicine RSMH on 2014 that met the inclusion criteria. Results: The subjects of this study were 100 patients consisted of 62 patients with CHD and 38 patients without CHD. From the results of the CHD’s distribution for age, sex, and degree of hypertension, it is found that the largest group of CHD patients was aged> 55 years as many as 35 (56.5%) people. CHD patients were mostly male (67.7%). Hypertension degree 1 is the highest degree of hypertension in patients with CHD (46.8%). Heart disease patients in the department of internal medicine RSMH 2014 with CHD positive and history of hypertension were found as much as 58.1%. From the Chi Square test, it is obtained that p = 0.000. Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between hypertension and coronary heart disease
