Abstract

Soils in South Sumatera are mostly clay soil. Clay soil is a soil with low bearing capacity because it has low direct shear and high compressibility, this cause clay soil to be sensitive with the amount of its moisture content that make clay soil become unstable. One of the effective ways to solve clay soil’s problem is to stabilize clay soil with chemicals. In this study, fly ash and renolith are used as the chemical to stabilize clay soil. variation of fly ash used in this study is 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20% by weight of soils and renolith is constant at 5% by weight of fly ash. The result from adding fly ash without renolith shows that 10% fly ash has the best increase out of all variations and curing periods with CBR 15,56% for no curing period and 24,33% for 7 days of curing. For mixture of fly ash with renolith, the best variation is 5% fly ash and 5% renolith with 14 days of curing, CBR increase up to 558,30% from the original clay soil CBR. In this variation the California Bearing Ratio is 31,47%, which the original clay soil CBR is 4,78%.
