Abstract

CLAY SOIL IMPROVEMENT WITH THE ADDITION OF RICE HUSK ASH AND ON VALUE RENOLITH CBR (CALIFORNIA BEARING RATIO) SOAKED Zhafirah Arita1, Ratna Dewi2, Yulindasari3 1Students of Department of Civil Engineering, University of Sriwijaya, South Sumatra 2Lecturer Department of Civil Engineering, University of Sriwijaya, South Sumatra 3Lecturer Department of Civil Engineering, University of Sriwijaya, South Sumatra ABSTRACT Clay is ground that has certain particles that produce properties on soil plasticity when mixed with water. Clay with high plasticity, cohesiveness large fluctuations resulted in a relatively large shrinkage fireworks. If the wet soil conditions, the volume of soil will expand so strong shear will be low and the soil will be sticky, whereas under dry conditions will have cracks due to shrinkage stress and soil in the harsh conditions. When a construction such as highways that support the entire construction of the road along with traffic load thereon built on land in question, then the road will be easily damaged. So that the subgrade must be fixed first before the construction work. Soil improvement methods used in this research is the chemical stabilization using rice husk ash and renolith against the value of California Bearing Ratio (CBR) soaked. The results of the testing show that the clays tested have a high plasticity value with soaked CBR value of 3.88%. Substitution of rice husk ash on clay soil using four variations of which is 4%, 8%, 12%, and 16% and 5% with a constant renolith treatment time for 0, 7 and 14 days. The results obtained from testing the soaked CBR CBR maximum value is obtained in a mixture of 16% substitution of rice husk ash on the treatment period of 14 days amounted to 23.62% by persentse CBR value changes amounted to 508.76%. Increasing the value of CBR is because the reaction of calcium contained in the waste rice husk with silica or aluminum in the soil, this reaction is commonly called cementation reaction.
