Abstract
Antioxidants is a substance needed body to scavange free radical and prevent damage caused by free radical to normal cells, proteins and fat. Robusta coffe leaves (Coffea canephora) consisted of alkaloids, flavonoid, phenolic, tannin, quinon, steroid/ triterpenoid, and cumarine which have potential as antioxidant.To increase the effectivity of coffe leaves extract as an antioxidant on skin, the extract is being formulated with gel with active ingredient robusta coffe leaves ethanol extract. HPMC 60SH as gelling agent is used eith variations of concentration 6%, 4%, 2%. Gel in the evaluation included organoleptic, homogenity, spreadability, sticking power, washability, pH, viscosity and stability. The influence of the concentration of HPMC 60SH is directed on the decrease of gel’s spreadability, washability, and pH, but also increase of sticking power and viscosity. Total flavonoid concentration at ethanol extract, formula 1, formula 2 and formula 3 respectively is 111,606 mg/g ; 30,173 mg/g ; 31,903 mg/g ; 33,823 mg/g. Three of the formulas is tested the antioxidant activity using DPPH ( 1,1 dyphenyl-2-pycrihydrazyl) with vitamin C as the control . IC50 value of vitamin C, formula 1, formula 2 and formula 3 respectively are 11,14 µg/ml ; 98,812 µg/ml ; 78,65 µg/ml ; 65,58 µg/ml.
