Abstract

Infectious diseases caused by bacteria, in general the bacteria that cause infectious diseases are Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. Escherichia coli is gram-negative bacteria that can cause infections in wounds, urinary tract infections, gastrointestinal infections like diarrhea. Staphylococcus aureus is a Gram-positive bacteria that can lead to the formation of pus wound infections, including ulcers, infections, bone and joint infections. The purpose of this research is to know the antibacterial activity of active fraction and compounds of extracts leaves lempau (Syzygium grande Wight) against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. This research was carried out in November 2015 until January 2016. The methods used in this research is the process of extraction with maceration, fractination with liquid-liquid fractination, test of antibacterial activity and determination of minimum inhibitory concentration by agar diffusion method and isolation the active compounds with the column chromatography method of gravity. Bacteria test used were Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. The data is presented in the table based on the value of the average diameter of minimum inhibitory concentration and standard deviation. The results of this research show that the fraction of water methanol is the most active fraction against test bacteria, water methanol fraction obtained from 1 active compounds namely isolates 1 bottle number from 1-7 are indicated as compounds tannins with a value of Rf 0.1167 cm. Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) fraction of methanol water against Escherichia coli is 62.5 μg/ml of 7.47 mm and on Staphylococcus aureus is 31.25 μg/ml of 7.97 mm. MIC active compounds obtained against Escherichia coli is 62.5 μg/ ml of 7.12 mm and against Staphylococcus aureus is 31.25 μg/ml of 7.33 mm. It can be concluded that the faction and the active compounds from the leaf extract of lempau (Syzygium grande Wight) has antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus, with actif compound content in the form of tannins.
