Abstract

The title of this S-1 thesis is "The Characteristics of Servant Leadership at The Regional Secretariat of Palembang City " . Servant Leadership is an approach that focuses on leadership from the standpoint of leadership and behavior. Leadership in the ministry stressed that leaders of attention to the problem of their followers , and help them develop their personal capacity in full. The servant leader is ethical as well as the lead in a way that serves the larger interests of the organization , community and society in general . The Regional Secretary of Palembang City as supreme leader of Palembang’s SKPD is an example for other civil servants of civil servants to continue to grow and serve the interests of subordinates than their self-interest. This research aims to determine applying the Characteristics of Servant Leadership at The Regional Secretariat of Palembang City. This research uses descriptive qualitative method. Data collection techniques used in this research were interviews, observation, and literature. The theory used in this research refers to 6 indicators of servant leadership of some experts in the field of servant leadership that are: listen, have vision, empowering employees, humble, forming a community, and serve. The results of this research indicate that the Regional Secretary of Palembang City is belonging the criteria of servant leader to fulfill 5 indicators of the Characteristics of servant leaders among them listening, empowering employees, humble, forming a community and serving while the other indicator that does not fulfill by the Regional Secretary of Palembang is not having his own vision as a leader, the district secretary only does the vision and mission that are made by the head region. The hope for the future would be able to become even better and were able to have their own vision as a Regional Secretary of Palembang City.
