Abstract

The purpose of this research is to evaluate the current suitability of palm oil plantation area in Banjar Jaya, Tungkal Jaya, Musi Banyuasin District, and provide suggestions for improvement based on the level of suitability land management today. The method used in this research is a survey method-level detail. One point of observation and soil sampling studies represent a 7.5 ha land. Comprehensive study site is 52 ha, as the whole area of research showed a 7 point observations. The depth of soil sample taken is up to 30 cm. All of the sample were analyzed in soil laboratory. Characteristics of soil analyzed in the laboratory is the texture, nutrient retention (pH and CEC), and the availability of nutrients (N-total, P2O5, K2O). The results showed that the actual suitability for oil palm plant research is S2fn (moderately suitable by a factor limiting nutrient retention and plant nutrient K) which is covered 22.46 ha. The suitability classes S3s, S3fs and S3f are covered 29.54 ha. Potential land suitability for oil palm plantation at the study area is S1 (highly suitable) if to overcome the limiting factors of nutrients, pH, CEC, and slopes.
