Abstract

The research objective was to evaluate the performance of Belitang secondary and tertiary canal. Belitang irrigation canal served irrigation water for rice field, industries, pools, plantation and others. The research was expected to be an important input for management planning and decision making for related parties so that operation and maintenance of irrigation network could be optimally implemented. The research was conducted at Belitang Secondary and Tertiary Canal, Belitang Sub District, East Ogan Komering Ulu District, South Sumatera from September 2016 to February 2017. Survey methods were used in this research in front of field observation and literature, data collecting and interview with related institutions and field worker. Data were analyzed with descriptive methods and presented in tables and graphs. The observed parameters were irrigation water requirements, water flow availability, network conditions, network effectiveness and network efficiency. The result showed that irrigation networks effectiveness was 74.44%, efficiency of secondary channels was 76.41% while the tertiary channels of 66.64%. The effectiveness and efficiency were influenced by the physical condition of the canal. Overall, belitang irrigation network performance was relatively good at 74.81% based on the standard of the Ministry of Public Works in 2014. The result of irrigation water requirements showed that sufficient water was available for all farming areas during the year at Belitang II area either at wet season or dry season.
