Abstract
Coconut fiber was a natural fiber found in Indonesia. Coconut husk had great potential, but it cannot be fully utilized for productive activities because of the lack of technological tools that can separate the components of coconut fiber. This study aimed to design, modify and test tools to decipher coconut fiber. The coconut husk decomposer made had the dimensions of the tool 160 × 70 × 118 cm, the drive used the YANMAR TF 65 LYS-DI - 6.5 PK Driving Machine and the average engine capacity is 68.31 kg / hour. The knife in this tool was modified so that it can be used to hit and break coconut fiber. Tests were carried out to determine the capacity of the modified engine to produce cocofiber and cocopeat. The mass of the material was uniformed to 1 kilogram, with a rotational speed of 1500 rpm. The parameters observed included the engine's effective capacity, fuel consumption, and decomposition yield. The results showed that the lowest effective capacity produced in experiment 3 was 65.21 kilograms per hour while the highest effective capacity in experiment 2 was 71.28 kilograms per hour. The average decomposition yield on coconut husk decomposition machine is 98.5%. The average fuel consumption of coconut husk decomposers with a speed of 1500 rpm from 3 experiments was carried out at 0.897 L / hr.
