Abstract

Background: The Quality of life of the elderly is affected by several factors such as physical, psychological, and social health. Physical health is related to the basic activity daily living carried out by someone in daily life including ambulation, eating, bathing, brushing teeth and dressing. In advance age, a person will experience a decrease in physical condition that will affect the individual to fulfill one's activity daily living. This study aims to analyze the relationship between the level of independence of activity daily living and the level of quality of life of geriatric patients. Method: This research is an analytical observational with cross sectional study design. The sample is geriatric patients at Ogan Ward RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang Period September-October 2019.. Result: From 55 geriatric patients at Ogan Ward RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang, it is known that the amount of male patient is 33 (60%) and female patient is 22 (40%), also group age 60-74 years as much as 41 (74,5%), 75-90 years as much as 14 (25,5%). Chi-square test result is there is a significant relationship between activity daily living and quality of life of geriatric patient (p value=0.000). Odd ratio in geriatric patient result in the possibility of the increasing quality of life is 27,7 times greater in patient with independent activity daily living than patient with total dependency activity daily living. Activity daily living is also a protective factor to the quality of life (CI 95%=0.006-0,206). Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between activity daily living and quality of life geriatric patients at Ogan Ward RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang
