Abstract

Background: In the last two decades, there has been an increase in the prevalence of Pervasive Developmental Disorders in the world. However, the epidemiological research on this field in Indonesia, especially in Palembang, has not been well documented. This study aims to provide an overview of the prevalence and sociodemographic characteristics that include, such as the patient's age, sex, age of the parents, the area of residence of the patient's parents, and the distribution of diagnosis based on ICD-10, in patients with Pervasive Developmental Disorders in Dr. Mohammad Hoesin hospital during the 2014-2018 period. Method: This is an observational descriptive study with a cross-sectional design. The data used are secondary data of patients with a diagnosis of Pervasive Developmental Disorders in accordance with the inclusion and exclusion criteria in Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Hospital for the 2014-2018 period. Results: Within the 2014-2018 period, 360 data met the inclusion criteria with the prevalence of 52,17 per 10,000 children. The median age of the patients is 42,00 months with the majority being male (76,9%). The parents’s age of Pervasive Developmental Disorders patients most are in the age group 25-34 year, both for the age of the father (61,6%) and the age of the mother (66,4%). The majority of parents live in the urban area (81,1%). The most diagnoses according to the ICD-10 is Childhood Autism (78,6%) Conclusion: The prevalence of Pervasive Developmental Disorders in Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Hospital Palembang within the 2014-2018 period was lower than the world and previous study prevalence rate. The Sociodemographic characteristics in this study also in line with other studies.
