Abstract
Background: Dysmenorrhea is a menstrual pain which symptoms include cramping pain in the lower abdomen, with mild to severe intensity. The prevalence of dysmenorrhea in Indonesia reaching 64,25%. Previous studies have shown that dysmenorrhea is the most common gynecologic complaint among adolescence and caused a decrease of productivity every year. Dysmenorrhea is influenced by a variety factors, one of which is fast food frequency consumption. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship of consuming fast food habit and the dysmenorrhea incidents among female medical studens of Sriwijaya Univesity batch 2016. Method: This study is an observational analytic study with a cross-sectional approach, that use total sampling method. Data is collected by questionnaires about individual characteristics such as menstrual patterns , history of dysmenorrhea and frequency of fast food consumption. The research data were analyzed by Chisquare test and logistic regression analysis. Result: Bivariate test show fast food consumption habit (p= 0,005) and body mass index (p= 0,004) have a significant association with dysmenorrhea incident. Fast food consumption habit (p= 0,005) and body mass index (p= 0,001) have a significant association with the dysmenorrhea severity. Multivariate test identified fast food consumption as the most influential factor towards the incident of dysmenorrhea. Conclusion: Fast food consumption habit have a significant association with the dysmenorrhea incident among female medical students of Sriwijaya University batch 2016.
