Abstract

ABSTRACT THE CORRELATION BETWEEN RISK FACTORS DAN TYPE OF STROKE AT GENERAL HOSPITAL DR MOH HOESIN PALEMBANG IN 2018 (Muhammad Rafif Ginting, Faculty of Medicine, Sriwijaya University) Background: Brain is a central nervous system that works through electrical signals to control the body's rapid response and to carry out a higher functions such as awareness, memory and emotions. The brain will be damaged, which is called a stroke, if it does not get enough oxygen supply for more than 4 minutes. The risk factors for stroke are hypertension, diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia, atrial fibrillation, smoking habits, age, sex and genetics. The aim of this study is to determine the relationship between risk factors and type of stroke. Methods: The study was an analytic observational study with a cross-sectional study design, using secondary data from the medical records of stroke patients in Dr. Moh Hoesin Hospital Palembang in 2018. A sample of 84 subjects was taken by consecutive sampling technique. Result: 84 subjects in this study consisted of 42 ischemic stroke and 42 hemorrhagic stroke subjects. In the Chi-square analysis, significant results were found in hypertension variables (p=0.045; POR=3.727; CI=95%), diabetes mellitus (p=0.018; POR=1.673; CI=95%), smoking habits (p=0.040; POR=1.6; CI=95%) and dyslipidemia (p=0.027; POR=1.673; CI=95%). The link between risk factors was analyzed multivariately in the hypertension variable (p=0,079; POR=8,239), diabetes variable (p=0,047; POR=0,343), dyslipidemia variable (p=0,018; POR=0,303) and smoking variable (p=0,085; POR=2,778). Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between risk factors and type of stroke in the variables of hypertension, diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia and smoking habits in stroke patients in Dr. Moh Hoesin Hospital Palembang in 2018.
