Abstract

Introduction: Kidney failure can occur when kidney’s function has decreased. The prevalence of kidney failure in the world is more than 500 million people and 1,5 million people depend on hemodialysis. Hemodialysis is the most common therapeutic method for kidney failure, but there are various complications that occur in hemodialysis patients that are life threatening such as air embolism, hemolysis and not life threatening such as hypotension, hypertension, chest pain, muscle cramp, etc. The purpose of this study is to know an overview of the hemodialysis complications at hemodialysis installation central general hospital dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. Method: This study’s design was descriptive. A total of 160 patients who met the inclusion criteria were included in the study by total sampling technique. The data were obtained from interview and observation of hemodialysis patients at hemodialysis installation central general hospital Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang on September 2019. Result: This study showed that from 160 patients, there were 147 of them who suffer hemodialysis complications (91,7%). The complications were itching (51,2%), headache (46,9%), muscle cramp (28,7%), nausea (21,9%), intradialytic hypertension (16,3%), intradialytic hypotension (10,6%), vomiting (6,9%), shivering (6,9%), chest paint (3,8%), and fever (1,9%). Conclusion: Almost all hemodialysis patients at hemodialysis installation central general hospital dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang have hemodialysis complications. The most common complication are itching, headache, and muscle cramp.
