Abstract
Demographic and Clinical Characteristics of Laryngopharyngeal Reflux Patients in ENT Department Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang General Hospital. Laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR) is a retrograde flow of gastric acid or its contents out of the esophagus, and enters the pharynx and larynx. The prevalence of LPR is around 4-10% of patients who come to the ENT Clinic and more than 55% of LPR patients show symptoms of hoarseness. LPR symptoms are diverse and not typical causing a lack of data regarding the diagnosis of LPR so the actual prevalence of LPR is not well documented. This study aims to determine the demographic and clinical characteristics of LPR patients in the ENT Department of Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang General Hospital in the period February 2018-October 2019. This research was an observational descriptive cross-sectional study. This study used medical records of LPR outpatients in the laryngopharynx divison of the ENT Department Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang General Hospital period February 2018-October 2019. The amount of samples in this research is 100 cases, taken by total sampling technique. The results of this research is presented in table and narration form. From 100 medical records, proportion of LPR incident was 3.55%. We have confirmed that LPR is most commonly found by the age group 18-65 years (90%) with an average age of 47.04±15.11 years, female sex (55%) with a ratio between men and women 1:1.2. The most common complaint was hoarseness (dysphonia) (48%) and the most common an additional complaint based on Reflux Symptom Index (RSI) was frequent throat clearing (38%).
