Abstract

Background: Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is infection caused by dengue virus which is transmitted through Aedes sp mosquito bites. The main vector is Aedes aegypti. This mosquito has a habit to breed in clean water. Previous studies have shown that Ae. aegypti can breed in polluted water. This research aimed to know the differences of various water media on the hatchability of Ae. aegypti. Method: This was experimental research with Post Test Only Control Group design. This research used five water media, aquades, tap water, soap water, chlorinated water, and sewage water. This research was conducted in July 2019. Data were analyzed using One Way Anova and Post Hoc Test. Result: There were significant differences (p=0,000) in various water media on the hatchability of Ae. aegypti mosquito eggs. Ae. aegypti mosquito eggs only hatch in aquades for 43 larva and in tap water for 40 larva. The time needed to first hatch in aquades is 33,2 hour and in tap water is 26,4 hour. The highest hatchability of Ae. aegypti mosquito eggs was in aquades by 28.6%. Post Hoc analytics result show there were significant differences of various wate media. Conclusion: There were significant differences in various water media on the hatchability of Ae. aegypti mosquito eggs. Keyword: Ae. aegypti mosquito egg, hatchability, water media.
