Abstract
Introduction: Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is a viral infectious disease transmitted by Aedes mosquito bites. House’s physical environmental sanitation factors condition has an important rule of creating an ideal environment for Aedes sp. mosquito to breed. The aims of this study are to identify the water storage that could be potential mosquito breeding sites and the relationship of the house’s physical environmental sanitation factors with the existence of Aedes sp. larvae in the working area of Puskesmas Padang Selasa Palembang. Methods: This study used an observational analytic approach. Samples were taken by purposive sampling which is sampling was done with consideration of the area with the incidence of DHF in 2019. Samples were collected from the identification of water storages, mosquito larvae, and observation of the house’s physical environmental sanitation factors in every room in respondent houses. Larvae that have been collected will be identified in the parasitology department in Medical Faculty of Sriwijaya University. Results: There are 111 observed houses with 36 houses (32.4%) with Aedes sp. larvae and 75 houses (67.6%) without Aedes sp. larvae. Larvae index was found Larvae Free Rate (LFR) 65.57%, HI 32.43%, CI 14,67%, BI 44.14%, and DF 5. The Genus of the mosquito that found in this study was Aedes, with Aedes aegypti species (93.88%), dan Culex (6.12%). 81.1% houses have poor air temperature, 63.1% with poor humidity, 68.5% with good natural lighting intensity, 60.4% without the presence of solid waste, 57.7% using wire mesh, 66.7% with the presence of hanged clothes, 82.9% with good occupancy density, and 71.2% with the presence of insecticides. Chi-square analysis found that air humidity (p=0.015), natural lighting intensity (p=0.000), the presence of solid waste (p=0.001), and the uses of wire mesh (p=0.010) have a relationship with the existence of Aedes sp. larvae. Multivariate analysis found that natural lighting intensity is the most dominant variable in influencing the existence of Aedes sp. larvae. Conclusion: There was a significant relationship between air humidity, natural lighting intensity, the presence of solid waste, and the uses of wire mesh with the existence of Aedes sp. larvae.
