Abstract
The Transmitted Helminth Soil (STH) Infection is one of Indonesia's neglected public health problems. This disease is chronic without causing obvious clinical symptoms but the impact is only seen after a long time, for example malnutrition, growth and development disorders, and cognitive disorders in children. In 2019, WHO reported that more than 24% of the world's population had worms, 60% of which were children. Risk factors for STH infections are sources of clean water, fecal disposal sites, social factors, and economic factors. In addition, personal hygiene also plays a role in preventing STH worm infections such as hand washing behavior, so research is needed to determine the relationship between hand washing behavior with STH infection in children. Method: This type of research is analytic observational. The total sample of 51 people taken by the total sampling method. The population is all students of the Subulussalam Islamic Boarding School in Palembang in October-November 2019. Result: 51 subjects in this study consisted of 9 positive infected with helminthiasis and 42 were not infected with helminthiasis. In the Chi-square analysis, a very significant result was found between the relationship of hand washing behavior and Soil Transmitted Helminth infection in students of Subulussalam Islamic Boarding School in Palembang (p=0.000). Conclusion: There was a very significant relationship between hand washing behavior with STH infection in Islamic boarding school students in Subulussalam Palembang.
