Abstract

ABSTRACT THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN BODY MASS INDEX (BMI) AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY TO STUDENTS OF CLASS 12 IN SMAN 1 PALEMBANG (Fathur Afif Moulana, Faculty of Medicine, Sriwijaya University) Background: Body mass index ( BMI ) is one of the simple methord to find out if a person can be considered normal, obesity, and underweight. BMI refers to the ratio of height and weight.There are several factors that can affect someone weight, one of them is physical activity The more physical activity which a person does so of metabolism in the body it will be faster so that it can be control BMI in order to keep it normal.The purpose of this research is knowing imt relationship and the level physical activity of class 12 students in SMAN 1 Palembang. Methods: This type of research is an observational analytic study with a case control approach, using primary data from 12th grade students of SMAN 1 Palembang. A sample of 45 subjects was taken by case control technique. Result: 45 subjects in this study consisted of 15 obese subjects and 30 subjects with normal BMI. On the Chi-square analysis, a very significant result was found between the relationship of BMI and the level of physical activity of 12th grade students of SMAN 1 Palembang (p=0.000) Conclusion: There is a very significant relationship between Body Mass Index (BMI) and the level of physical activity of 12th grade students of SMAN 1 Palembang.
