Abstract

This study is a descriptive study which aims to find out the mathematical thinking process of the mathematization aspect of 8th grade students in the material of sequence of numbers and object configurations through learning the PMRI Approach. This research focused on the indicators of mathematical thinking on the aspect of mathematization, such as geometrization, connecting, formalization, and optimization. The subject in this study students of VIII.4 in SMP Negeri 1 Indralaya. The learning process is adjusted to the characteristics of PMRI. The data collection techniques used in this study were written test and interview. The written test questions consist of 4 essay questions. Based on the results of the study, it was obtained that after learning using the PMRI approach, the indicator of mathematical thinking on the aspect of mathematization that appears most often was geometrization because students could use pictures to solve problems. Meanwhile, in the indicator of connecting, it appeared very rarely in students because in solving problems, students can connect mathematical concepts, but students wrote them on another sheet of paper. As a result, students did not express mathematical concept ideas on the answer sheet.
