Abstract

Laryngeal carcinoma is a malignancy in the larynx from laryngeal epithelial cells. Laryngeal carcinoma as a malignant head and neck tumor is the second cammon after nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Etiology of laryngeal carcinoma is multifactorial, including smoking, alcohol consumption, food, genetic, HPV virus infection and occupation. Research was to knowing correlation between smoking and alcohol consumption with laryngeal carcinoma.This research was an observasional analytic study with a case control design, using secondary data from medical records of patients with head and neck malignancies at RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang for period January 2018 until July 2019. A sample of 66 subjects was taken by consecutive sampling technique with modification . Data were analyzed by chi-square and Fisher exact alternative test. From 22 case group, 90,9% of the majority have a history of smoking, 90,9% of the majority of active smokers, 70,0% of smoking cases >20 cigarettes per day, 100% smoking >20 years. 86,4% majority have a history of alcohol consumption, 63,2% of sufferers consume alcohol 10-20 years. An analysis was performed with Chi-square, smoking has a significant relationship with laryngeal carcinoma (p=0,000; OR=12,000; CI=95%), alcohol consumption has a significant relationship with laryngeal carcinoma (p=0,003; OR=6,937; CI=95%).
