Abstract

Corn is one of the important food sources after rice. Sweet corn (Zea mays Saccharata Sturt L.) or sweet corn is consumed by many Indonesian people because it has a sweeter taste and has more nutritional value compared to ordinary corn. In an effort to increase the production of corn, there are constraints faced by farmers such as Bulai disease, leaf blight and leaf rust disease. These diseases can be detrimental because they can reduce corn yields. The purpose of this study was to determine and study the differences in the incidence of leaf disease, growth and yield caused by fungi of several varieties of sweet corn. This research was conducted in Mekar Alam Village, Pagar Alam Utara District, Pagar Alam City, South Sumatra Province. and Phytopathology Laboratory, Department of Pests and Plant Diseases, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. The time for the research to begin is in June 2019 until completion. This study used a Randomized Block Design (RBD) method with treatments consisting of 4 varieties that were repeated 6 times, V1 = Paragon, V2 = Jamboree, V3 = Love Sweet, V4 = Bonanza F1, and obtained 24 treatment plots with each plot consisting of 12 plants so that a total of 288 plants. The results obtained three leaf diseases, downy mildew (Peronosclerospora sorghi) with a low incidence, then Leaf Fever (Helminthosporium turcicum) and Leaf Rust Disease (Puccinia sorghi), with moderate incidence and No significant differences were observed between varieties observed, even though the disease with moderate intensity all varieties remained produce corncobs
