Abstract

The research aims to determine the value of hardness using the Vickers test machine on medium carbon steel that has been given a normalizing treatment with temperature variations and holding time for 5 minutes. The research method used is an experimental research method with the aim of knowing cause and effect based on experiments conducted directly on the treatment given. Temperature variations used are 750 ° C, 850 ° C and 950 ° C, and test specimens without Normalizing treatment. The cooling media used in this study uses air cooling in the room, so the cooling will reduce the heat in the test specimen slowly. The Normalizing process is carried out at the Workshop of Mechanical Engineering Education in Sriwijaya University, then the Vickers testing process is carried out in the Metallurgi Laboratory of Mechanical Engineering at the Sriwijaya University. Based on this research study, the conclusion in this study after the vickers test is: the highest value in the RawMaterial specimen is 224,478 kgf / mm2 inversely proportional to the test specimen that has been done Normalizing the highest temperature variation at 950 ° C with a value of 153.3333 kgf / mm².
