Abstract

This study discusses the meaning of alternative medicine advertisement for Klinik Terapi Zona at Palembang TV station. The research method in this study uses reception analysis with the aim of seeing how audiences interpret the contents of advertising messages from local television. The discussion in this study uses the study of encoding-decoding theory from Stuart Hall, that the audience is divided in to third positions, namely the dominant position, negotiation, and opposition. The data collection of this study using in-depth interviews. The results of this study indicate thatin dominant position. Which is marked by the interpretation of the code as desired by the sender of the message. Furthermore, there are two who are in negotiating position marked by the interpretation of the same code as the sender of the message but also reject the message simultaneously. Then the two other informants are in oppositional position, which is marked by rejecting the contents of the advertising message.
