Abstract

This study examines "Social Marginalization of Fishing Communities at the Coastal of Sungsang Village, Banyuasin Regency, South Sumatra". The purpose of this study was to find out the type and the impact the social marginalization that occurred in the fishing community at the coast of Sungsang I village, Banyuasin district, South Sumatra. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative research method. The number of informants in this study were 12 informants. Data collection techniques are done by observation, interviews, and documentation. This study uses the Subaltern theory from Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak. The results found that there were 4 types of social marginalization experienced by the fishing community in the village of Sungsang I, was, difficulty of road access from the village to the city due to uneven development, lack of medical equipment and health facilities such as midwives and doctors who settled in Sungsang I Village, inadequate facilities school due to damaged buildings and other facilities, and the lack of clean water availability in Sungsang I Village due to PAM which has never operated. The impact that occured at the fishing community in the village of Sungsang I is that the activity is obstructed , the community, especially fishermen, is having difficulty getting treatment, the teaching and learning process is not effective, and the fishermen have difficulty getting clean water sources in the village.
