Abstract
Breast cancer is the cancer with the largest number of deaths. Breast Self-Examination (BSE) is still rarely performed by teenagers, so by provide intervention to them is very necessary to improve knowledge, attitudes and BSE practices. This study used a Quasi Experiment study design with a Pretest-Posttest with Control Group design. For the sampling used simple random sampling. The sample in this study was 29 people in the treatment group using animated videos and 29 people in the control group with lectures. Data regarding BSE knowledge, attitudes and behavior were obtained through a questionnaire. The research analysis test used dependent t test with Wilcoxon alternative test and independent t test with Mann Whitney alternative test. The results showed there were differences in knowledge (p = 0,000) and attitudes (p = 0.002) after being given an animated video related to Breast Self-Examination in the treatment group, but there was no difference in behavior before and after animation video was given (p = 0.185). There were differences in knowledge (p = 0,000), attitudes (p = 0,000), and behavior (p = 0.038) before and after the lecture method was given regarding Breast Self-Examination in the control group. There was a significant difference in knowledge (p = 0.009) between the treatment and control groups and there were no differences in attitudes (p = 0.711) and behavior (p = 0.053) which were significant between the treatment and control groups. It can be concluded that animated video and lectures are effective for increasing knowledge. While it is not effective to improve the attitude and behavior related to Breast Self-Examination. This is because of the intervention only done once in a month. Suggestions in this research can be continued with evaluation for every weeks before the posttest as a follow up of the intervention.
