Abstract

The population of Belangkas (horseshoe crabs) in nature are becoming lesser nowadays and they are determined as protected animals. One of efforts to protect them is by mapping the distribution of their habitat which can be used as a reference for conservation areas. The purpose of this study is to identify horseshoe crabs types, analyze their growth, environmental conditions, and map distribution locations in the coastal water of Banyuasin, South Sumatera. Exploratory research is used in which the determination of sampling locations using the fishing ground method. The result is that there are 2 types of horseshoe crabs, Tachypleus gigas and Corcinoscorpius rotundicauda. Pattern growth is positive allometric with condition factor (K) value of 1.03. Water conditions are categorized as good. The distribution location of them is near to Tanjung Carat and Upang regions.
