Abstract
Pahawang island located in Lampung which is one of the main tourism destinations supported by beautiful nature with high tourist arrivals in every year. It makes Pahawang be the main beach tourism attraction in Lampung. However, there is a lack of tourism facilities and infrastructures, for example the lack of accommodation facilities. The resort hotel is a suitable accommodation facility to support the tourism that offer a uniqueness of the landscape away from the urban activity that can only be reached by boat. Therefore, the resort is designed by emphasizing the uniqueness of natural conditions of beach. The resort is designed with the overwater architecture concept. Site and the building are designed to harmonize with the local so that the environmrntsl impact can be minimized. It considered as the prevention against flooding due to high tides, maximizing panoramic views, flowing natural air, and keeping visitor’s privacy. It divides the massing concept into five types of buildings based on its activity patterns, namely three main masses, one on-land resort and two overwater resorts, and two supporting masses namely, the pier and the manager building. The building masses arranged spread out that is bound by a circulation path as its main axis connection. The overwater architecture concept uses a platform stilt foundation and high roofs angle with a reed material adapted from the traditional house. The shape of the building reduces heat from sun exposure throughout the day. Due to high humidity, the wood material is treated with antifungal treatment, the building let the sunlight enters the building, and good air circulation are much needed to meet the thermal comfort. The use of local materials such as palm leaves, wood and bamboo for the facade are because they create a natural, environmentally friendly and climate-friendly character. In addition, the material is also easy to get. These natural materials combined with bamboo structures so that can be applied to various designs. The overwater building stands on a pile foundation as deep as three meters meanwhile the on-land buildings stands on a foundation as deep as half a meter. The foundation creates a unique beachside and also maximizes the function of water infiltration. Since the hotel location is in isolated areas, it requires wells to fulfill their clean water needs. The water from well is pumped into storage tanks and then distributed with a two-way pump system to each resort units. For the fire protection, there is tank that is distributed directly from wells to all on-land resort units, while for the overwater resorts use fire extinguisher in each unit and hydrant pumps. Wastewater utilities are operated with local sanitation in each resort unit using a one-pipe system that is piped to a biofil slit. The rest of the septic water is flowed into the purification pond before re-entering the sea water.
