Abstract
This research aimed to determine the differences and influence of technical media and catfish culture wastewater on fatty acids and beta carotene content of Spirulina platensis. This research used independent T-test analysis for test density, specific growth rate, fatty acids, and beta carotene. The experiment was repeated 3 repititions. The result showed that the treatment of the two media showed significant differences in density and specific growth rate. Based on fatty acid analysis using GC-FID method, there are 10 and 13 types of fatty acid which are detected in Spirulina platensis biomass cultured in technical and wastewater media respectively. The amount of saturated, mono-unsaturated and poly-unsaturated fatty acids identified in samples cultured in technical and catfish wastewater media were 39.84%:5.63%:43.77% and 39.02%:7,31%:41.55% respectively. Analysis using HPLC method of beta carotene detected in Spirulina platensis biomass cultured in technical media and wastewater media showed no significant difference with the value of 1.33% and 0.91% respectively
