Abstract
Jackfruit Leaves (Artocarpus heterophyllus Lmk.) Contain flavonoid compounds, tannins and saponins that act as antibacterial. The purpose of this study is to formulate cream of jackfruit leaf extract and determine effectiveness of cream antibacterial against bacteria Propionibacterium acnes. The Simplicia of jackfruit leaves (Artocarpus heterophyllus Lmk.) was extracted by maceration method then fractionated. The extracts were characterized and the determination of flavonoids was analyzed using UV-Vis spectrophotometry. Jackfruit leaves extract is used as an active ingredient in o/w type cream formulations with a concentration variation of 5%, 10% and 15%. The cream produced was tested for organoleptic, homogeneity, viscosity, pH, dispersive power, adhesion, leached power, stability of cream and Antibacterial activity against Propionibacterium acnes which is a bacterium that causes acne. Data was analyzed using SPSS® application version 16. The results of extract characterization showed that the extract met the general requirements and the flavonoid content was 37.82 mg / g. The results of the evaluation of the preparations showed that of the four formulas prepared that fulfilled all evaluation requirements, only Formula III was a 10% extract concentration with dispersion (4,433 ± 0.351 cm), pH (6,073 ± 0.015), viscosity (159 ± 13,75 d.Pas ), adhesion (11,30 ± 0,316 seconds), washability (16,04 ± 0,03 mL) and stability test. The inhibitory zones caused by cream preparations with various concentrations of extracts of 5%, 10% and 15% were 6.599 ± 0.797 mm, 8.075 ± 0.402 mm, 9.457 ± 0.533 mm, respectively. Cream with ethanol extract of jackfruit leaves have antibacterial activity in the medium category.
