Abstract

Stunting is a global problem that has not been tackled in developing countries including Indonesia. Indonesian Health research’s data in 2018 indicate that stunting is still a public health problem. Stunting correlates with many aspects. This study was conducted to determine the correlation between the incidence of stunting with a mother’s height, type of mother’s personality, the effect of double roles, age, and type of labor, also implementation of the First Thousand Days of Life program. This study is a mixed-method with the Sequential Explanatory Design model. Quantitative research was collected 100 respondents as samples taken by proportional random sampling from every district in Palembang City. 6 key informants have been selected by purposive sampling for qualitative research. Quantitative data analysis in the form of univariate, bivariate used chi square and multivariate used binary logistic, were presented in tables and narratives. Analysis of qualitative data with the triangulation of sources and methods is presented in textual and narrative forms. The results have shown the incidence of stunting in Palembang was 29%. There is correlation between mother’s height and stunting with p-value = 0.004 (p <0.05) with OR = 4.089; CI 95 (1,621-10,314). There is correlation between mother's personality type and stunting with p-value = 0.006 (p <0.05) OR = 0.167; CI 95 (0,046-0,604). There is correlation between implementation of First Thousand Days of Life program and stunting with p-value = 0.004 (p <0.05) with OR = 4.089; CI 95 (1,621-10,314). Age and type of labor, and also double role effects do not correlate with stunting. Chance of stunting in a toddler with a mother’s personality type B and bad implementation of the First Thousand Days of Life program is 49%. The results of the qualitative analysis illustrate the tendency of mothers with personality type B who are less concerned with the type of food, portion and food habits of children. The conclusion is mothers with type B personality have the most influence on stunting with a risk of 5.8 times. The suggestion of this study for counseling activities at primary health care is counseling modifications according to personality types in health promotion to mothers or prospective mothers.
