Abstract

Flacourtia rukam has been used traditionally by the community in the treatment of hypertension. In this research, a subchronic toxicity test for ethanol extract the stem bark of F. rukam containing steroid glycoside was used using Wistar rats to determine the toxic effects. This study used 30 male rats and 30 female rats divided into 5 groups, consisting of a control group and 4 treatment groups with doses of 200, 400, 600 and 800 mg/kgBW. This research lasted for 90 days. The parameters observed included body weight, macroscopic observations, measurement of blood biochemical parameters (SGOT, SGPT, creatinine), conducted on days 31 and 91. The results showed the occurrence of changes in test animal weights before treatment and after treatment. Blood biochemical parameter tests (SGOT, SGPT, creatinine) for all treatment doses indicate enhancement values but still within normal limits. Based on this data it was concluded that ethanol extract the stem bark of of F.rukam was not subchronic toxic until the dose was 800 mg/kgBW.
