Abstract

Increasing the area of plantations in Indonesia from year to year, encourages oil palm breeding efforts to obtain plants that are tolerant and adaptive to drought stress. This study aims to determine and obtain origin that is resistant to drought stress with the fastest recovery from various origins. This research was conducted in the oil palm plantation area of PT. Bina Sawit Makmur Sampoerna Agro, Mesuji District, Ogan Komering Ilir Regency, South Sumatra. The research period was started from November 2019 to March 2020. This study used a randomized block design (RBD) method. There were 7 oil palm origins tested and designated as treatment, then 15 progeny were determined, each progeny was repeated 3 times, so that the total sample plants were 45 plants which were divided as follows. 1. Origin Nigeria (4 progeny), 2. Origin Ghana (1 progeny), 3. Origin Ekona (2 progeny), 4. Origin Avros (3 progeny), 5. Origin Dami (2 progeny), 6. Origin Yangambi ( 2 progeny), and 7. Origin Lame (1 progeny). The results of analysis of variance (ANOVA) during drought stress showed that the difference did not significantly affect the number of sengkleh fronds and fresh fruit bunches, but had a significant effect on the number of male and female flowers and had a very significant effect on the number of spear leaves and proline levels. Meanwhile, after drought stress showed no significant effect on the number of sengkleh fronds and female flowers, but had a significant effect on the number of male flowers and the number of bunches and had a very significant effect on the number of spear leaves and proline levels. Based on the general average of all origins, the origins that were relatively tolerant and recovered quickly to drought stress were Nigeria and Yangambi origin, the relatively fast and tolerant origins were Avros, Dami, and Ekona, while the sensitive and slow to recover from drought stress were from Ghana and Lame.
