Abstract

This research was conducted to find out how CPO prices affect the income and economic well-being of oil palm independent farmers in The Sungai Rengit VillageDistrict of Talang Kelapa Banyuasin Regency. This research was conducted with the following objectives: (1) Measuring the elasticity of the transmission of FFB prices for independent smallholders in the village. (2) Analyzing the effect of CPO price fluctuations on the income of independent smallholders in the village. (3) Determine the level of economic welfare of oil palm independent farmers to household income received in accordance with the standard of living needs (KHL) in the Village. This research was conducted in November 2019. Determination of the location of the study was carried out deliberately with the consideration that the Sungai Rengit Village has the existence of independent oil palm farmers. Samples of farmers using simple random sampling method with a sample of 30 farmers. The results of this study are (1) The result of the transmission elasticity of the International CPO price to the FFB price of 0.50 <1, this means that the change in the International CPO price is not perfectly transmitted to the FFB price at the farm level or in other words the rate of International CPO change is greater than the rate of change FFB prices at the farm level. Farmer’sincome is increasing along with the increase in CPO prices. The estimated parameter value shows a positive number of 264,011 proving that the price of CPO has a significant positive effect on the income of independent oil palm farmers in Sungai Rengit Village. The higher the CPO price, the higher the farmer's income will be. Every CPO price increase of Rp1,00 then farmers' income will increase by Rp264,00 assuming other variables are constant. (2) International CPO price coefficient of 0.063, this means that any increase in International CPO prices of Rp1,00 will lead to an increase in farmer fresh fruit bunches (TBS) prices of Rp0,063. (3) The total family income of the oil palm independent farmer in Sungai Rengit Village is Rp3.892.193,69 per month while the average family KHL standard is Rp3.131.373,04 per month. With a difference that is not too far away, namely Rp760.820,64 per month. Seeing that the KHL standard of the family is smaller than the family income, independent palm oil farmers in Sungai Rengit Village can be categorized as economically feasible or prosperous.
