Abstract
Developments in the industrial sector play an important role in the development of catalyst manufacturing in Indonesia. However, the use of catalysts in industry is still very high, leading to a lack of good catalyst products, especially solid catalysts. This study aims to develop a solid porous catalyst from a hydroxyapatite / SiO2 composite. The porous hydroxyapatite / SiO2 composites were made with SiO2 as reinforcement, namely 25% and also added purple sweet potato powder which has been in the oven as a space holder. The manufacturing process begins by mixing hydroxyapatite powder (200 µm), SiO2 powder (200 µm) and purple sweet potato powder (200 µm) then mixing using a ballmill with a rotating speed of 225 rpm for 1 hour. The mixture was then put into a molding and compacted with a pressure of 69.805 MPa. The greenbody specimens were then sintered at 1100oC and 1200oC and held for 3 hours. Apparent density testing is carried out using the Archimedes method and the highest density is 1.4983 g / cm3 with a porosity of 50.34% in the 30% HA / SiO2 space holder specimen. In the X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) test, it shows that the dominant phases are hydroxyapatite (HA), β-TCP and SiO2. The compressive strength test showed the highest average compressive strength of 33.073 MPa in the 30% HA / SiO2 space holder specimen. The results of microstructure observations using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) showed that there were pores formed in the specimen with a size of 4,510 µm - 67.32 µm and interconnecting porous had been formed
