Abstract

Buah Watershed is watersheds in Palembang that prone to flood which makes this watershed listed as a priority area of flood management in Palembang city. The high intensity of rainfall along with massive open green space development, increase surface water runoff that caused flood. Based on that condition, an action is needed to control the flood by planning alternative retention ponds that accommodate runoff discharge and reduce flood inundation. This study aims to determine and analyze the conditions of Buah watershed to control flood in the future. Hydrological analysis used to calculate the peak discharge of each catchment area in Buah watershed. Analysis of the SCS Unit Hydrograph Model in 10 years returns period with HEC-HMS and spatial analysis in 26 catchment areas resulted that the peak discharges are around 1,27 m3/s – 15,71 m3/s. Furthermore, some alternative retention ponds are planned to reduce the peak discharge. Based on spatial data analysis, obtained an area of 12 alternative retention pond plans are around 0.580 Ha - 3.967 Ha. The analysis between inflow discharge and the retention pond elevation from hydrologic modeling with HEC-HMS 4.3 on 12 alternative retention pond results that the minimum depth of the 12 alternative retention ponds is around 2.5 m - 4 m. From the comparison between the inflow discharge and the outflow discharge, effectiveness of the retention ponds shown based on the percentage of flood reduction. The retention ponds with the highest percentage of peak discharge reduction was the PHDM retention ponds (80.05%) and the lowest was the Asrama Sekojo retention ponds (0.029%).
