Abstract

The Joker film that aired in 2019 tells the story of a person named Arthur Fleck who turned into a Joker figure, a character who came from the antagonist in Batman comics published by DC. The story given in the Joker film by Todd Phillips shows how a social society can change other people into different figures as a result of the community's treatment of themselves. This study will analyze how the representation in the scenes in the Joker movie and become an understanding of the audience. The reality that I will see in the scene is the reality of the oligarchy. Analysis for each scene uses the semiotic method of Roland Barthes, where this method will see meaning and message from the scene through the level of denotation and connotation which then this connotation can have a myth in society. Based on the analysis, it can be said that this Joker film represents the oligarchy to the audience and clarifies the understanding of the oligarchy to the audience based on the oligarchic concept put forward by Jeffrey A Winters. The reality shown in the Joker film can also be a form of satire for today's social society that seems to be changing every year and the loss of love, affection, and also respect in social life. Acting from Joaquin Phoenix who plays Arthur Fleck can convince the audience of what Arthur feels for the community where he lives.
