Abstract
One of the most advanced and developing technological developments is in the field of welding. SMAW welding is a welding technique using an electric current in the form of an arc and a wrapped electrode. Gray cast iron which describes the presence of graphite in the form of flakes. The presence of this graphite material makes gray cast iron very difficult to weld and prone to recurrence. So to overcome and form this, an initial guarantee is given in order to inhibit the cooling rate so that cracks and the formation of white cast iron can be inhibited. Welding results have welding distortion due to internal stresses. The penetrant dye results indicate that there are porosity defects and spark defects due to inappropriate current regulation. The hardness results tend to be evenly distributed and the hardness on the hotter sample compared to the nonheated ones, however, the relative hardness does not change significantly. This gray cast iron is a perlitic type because of the presence of a ferrite matrix and a perlite matrix. Micro results, namely the enlargement of the graphite in the sample which causes an increase in the density of graphite in gray cast iron. Keywords : SMAW, Preheat, Besi Cor Kelabu
