Abstract

Smartphone addiction is someone uses smartphone without thinking about the impact. The impact of smartphone addiction on students is a disturbance on health, anxiety, learning, social interaction, and student character. This study uses quasy experimental research design pre-post control group design with sample are 34 student VII grade of Al-Azhar Islamic Junior High School in Palembang that selected using purposive sampling. Bivariate analysis uses Wilxocon and Mann Whitney tests. There is an increase in knowledge on the statement of the health effects of smartphone addiction (experimental) and the risk of smartphone addiction (control). Decreased knowledge on smartphone addiction prevention statements (experimental). Significant increase in positive scores on the statement of the influence of smartphone addiction on learning ability (experiment) and helping others (control). There is difference in the mean knowledge of the experimental group (23.94), the knowledge of the control group (11.06), the attitude of the experimental group (24.85), and the attitude of the control group (10.15). Wilxocon test shows there is an influence of health education on knowledge and attitudes (p-value <0.05). The Mann Whitney test shows that there is a significant difference in the influence of knowledge and attitudes between the experimental group and the control group (p-value < 0,001). There is influence of both media on knowledge and attitude of smartphone addiction on students, but snake and ladder game is more effective than counseling with powerpoint. The results of this study are expected to provide media innovation to improve students' knowledge and attitudes about smartphone addiction to avoid the adverse effects of smartphone addiction.
