Abstract

Safety climate is an overview of worker perceptions of occupational safety, which is assessed by several dimensions that support the well- being of a good working safety climate. Increased worker safety behaviour can be generated through a good occupational safety climate of its workers. Most causes of occupational accident in the department of Operation IB PT. Pupuk Sriwijaya (PUSRI) Palembang due to safety climate and safety behaviors of the employee were not good. So, it is important to analyze the relationship of work safety climate with safety behavior for IB Operations Department employees at PT. PUSRI Palembang. The study uses a cross-sectional study design with an observational quantitative approach. The sample of this study were 107 employees with proportional stratified random sampling technique. Data analysis performed was univariate and bivariate analysis using the Chi-square Test. The results showed more than 90% of respondents, about 105 emlpoyees (98,1%) had positive occupational safety behavior and there was a meaningful relationship between the Management safety priority and ability in Mount of 91,7% (p-value=0,049), management safety Justice 90% (p-value=0,034), workers’ safety priority and non-acceptance risk 89,5% (p-value=0,030), and workers’ trust in efficacy of safety systems 86,7% (p-value=0,019) with safety behavior on employees. The most dominant dimension influencing safety behavior is workers’ trust in efficacy of safety systems (PR value = 1.154). Trust in good management can increase employee involvement to behave securely and reduce occupational accidents. Some efforts are needed to improve good safety climate and safety behavior like forming conducive work environment, increase self awareness of HSE, make a training to build a good HSE culture, improve safety behavior, actively participate in every HSE activity, and make safety as a top priority in working.
