Abstract

Incidence of diarrheal disease in children under five in South Sumatra is included in the 10 most diseases, the area that has experienced this cases is Talang Ubi Selatan Villages in PALI (Penukal Abab Lematang Ilir) Regency. The purpose of this study was to analyze the determinants of diarrhea in infants in Talang Ubi Kelurahan, PALI Regency (Penukal Abab Lematang Ilir). This research uses Cross Sectional design, population in this research is children under five years. Cluster Sampling technique as many as 112 respondents. Data analysis was performed univariate, bivariate using the Chi Square test and multivariate using Multiple Logistics Regression. The results showed 67.9% of children under five had experienced diarrhea, bivariate analysis showed that there was a relationship between maternal education (p-value 0.002), clean water facilities (p-value 0,000), quality of stool disposal (p-value 0.012), availability trash can (p-value 0,000), SPAL availability (p-value 0.012), CTPS behavior (p-value 0.003) with the incidence of diarrhea in infants. And there is no relationship between the presence of age of children under five (p-value 0,988), sex of children under five (p-value 1,000), maternal age (p-value 0,716), mother's work (p-value 0,682). The result of multivariate analysis showed that the dominant factors affecting the incidence of diarrhea in infants were clean water facilities (p-value 0,001) (OR=5, 843 CI= 2,019-16,909). The result of this research is the incidence of diarrhea in infants is affected by clean water facilities. Preventive actions of diarrheal disease in children under five years, involve the participation of the communities and the government in order to do PHBS and provide clean water facilities to avoid the occurence of diarrhea in children under five years.
