Abstract

Fluorine is an inorganic chemical that is directly related to health with a permissible threshold value of 1.5 mg / L. Fluorine will have an adverse effect on teeth containing levels ≥ 1.5 mg / L. These bad effects such as teeth become yellowish or brown and there are spots on tooth enamel. Dental health complaints are health complaints that are often found on the teenegars in work are of 1 Ulu Public Health Center Palembang City. Dental health complaints can have a serious impact on humans because teeth are a gathering place for bacteria and germs that can interfere with other body health. One factor that can interfere with dental health is the content of fluorine in drinking water. Fluorine in teeth can cause caries, periodontal disease, and gingival complaints. The goals of this research is to determine the correlation between flourine content in drinking water to dental health complaints of teenagers with cross-sectional study design and using quantitative method. Collecting data using questionnaire with purposive sampling in work area of 1 Ulu Public Health Center Palembang. The research resulted that there were 5 variables related to dental health complaint, namely the levels of flourine in drinking water (p-value = 0.020), the excessive sugar consumption (p-value = 0.003), the smoking habit (p-value = 0.024), the brushing habits (p-value = 0.022), and the type of toothpaste (p-value = 0.003). From the results of the study, it can be concluded that fluorine content can cause dental health complaints to the teenagers in work area of 1 Ulu Public Health Center Palembang City.
