Abstract

In order to obtain the discharge stress characteristics of kraft paper insulation impregnated liquid insulation the measurement of PDIV characteristic have been carried out. Tests carried out on kraft paper samples with a thickness of 40 µm. Samples were made in a size of 60 x 60 mm2 conditioned in a state impregnated by oil as a treatment. The oils used in this test are Virgin Coconut Oil and Diala B Transformer Oil. The volume of oil used is 350 ml for each test. The test was carried out using a needle-plane electrode system under application of alternating HVAC. The gap between the sample surface and the needle electrode tip is 0.5 mm. The test results show that a significant effect on the PDIV characteristic of kraft samples. The results probably related to insulating strength of kraft paper become increase due to resistance of kraft paper was changed. The average PDIV values of kraft paper sample without treatment is 1.4082 kV. The use of oil could be increased the dielectric resistance of the sample in resisting mechanical stress. The magnitude of the discharge stress of kraft paper when using Virgin Coconut Oil was 267.73%, while Diala B Transformer Oil was able to provide an increase of up to 364.28%. This also proves that the dielectric resistance of air gap is smaller than Diala B Transformer Oil and Virgin Coconut Oil had an effect on the discharge voltage that occured.
