Abstract

The term “mangrove” sometimes refers to habitat, but in some cases it is also used for plant spesies. Mangroves stands can protect settlements from sea water intrusion and protect the coast from strom surges. The mangroves availability, is currently in critical condition. One type of mangrove, that is classified as rare is Kandelia candel. The research method uses is an experimental method using RAL. Each treatment was made 5 replications, each replication there were 5 individuals. The parameters observed were shoot length, number of leaves, number of roots, root length and percentage of seed growth which was done destructively. Data analysis used analysis of variance (ANOVA) and advanced test of the Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT). The results showed that the highest avetage shoot length was found in the treatment of mud media from the original habitat (P0) namely 27.4 cm. The highest average number of leaves was found in the treatment of mud media from the original habitat (P0), yellow soil (P2), and the combination of mud from the original habitat with swamp land namely 6.4. The highest average number of roots was found in the swamp soil media (P1), which was 24.8 cm. the highest average root length was found in the treatment of mud media from the original habitat (P0) namely 18.84 cm. based on the results of analysis of variance, it was found that the treatment of various substrates had a significant effect on shoot length, number of leaves and root length, but had no significant effect on the number of roots. So it can be concluded that the mud medium from the original habitat (P0) is the best medium for the growth of Kandelia candel seedlings on shoot length, number of leaves and root length. Meanwhile, swamp land media (P1), can be the best medium for the growth of Kandelia candel seeds on the number of roots. Keywords : fresh water, Kandelia candel, nursery, substrate
