Abstract
In the mining industry, a transportation system called belt conveyor system is used. Belt conveyor system is a very important role in the process of transporting coal products. On belt conveyor system, the pulley is one of the core component that play a role in running the system. Pulley is a machine element that functions to deliver power from the motor to the belt using the shaft. Pulley is also used as a mechanical equipment to change the direction of motion from the applied force and transmit rotational motion. Shaft is a rotating component and usually tubular (solid or hollow), which is one of the elements of a machine that functions to deliver a rotating motion and power to machinery and mechanical equipment. Components such as gears, pulleys, clutches, and sprockets are mounted on shafts to transmit power from the motor or engine to a system. This study aims to redesign the shaft of drive pulley dimensions that obtained from the force analysis to avoid damage to the shaft of drive pulley. By getting the value of optimum dimension from the shaft of drive pulley, it can minimize the damage. The parameters that affect the equivalent torque are the shear stress, and the tensile strength for the equivalent moment on the mounted shaft of drive pulley. After analyzing the data, it obtained the diameter dimension values based on the torque equivalent is 167 mm and a diameter dimension values based on the moment equivalent is 157 mm.
