Abstract

The aim of this study is determining wheter there is a role of problem focused coping and emotion focused coping toward academic stress among Faculty of engineering ungraduate programme. This study hyphothesizes that there is a role of problem focused coping and emotion focused coping toward academic stress. The population of this study is student faculty of engineering undergraduate programme. The sample are 210 students faculty of engineering undergraduate programme from 7 majors. Sampling technique was quota sampling. The study measurements are coping strategies scale and academic stress scale that refer to Olejnik dan Holschuh (2016) academic stress reaction and Aldwin dan Revenson (1987)coping strategies form. Data analysis used simple regression. The result of simple regression shows problem focused coping (r square = 0,038), F = 8,213, dan p = 0,005 (p<0,05). This result means that problem focused coping has a significant role toward academic stress. Thus, the hypothesis is accepted, and problem focused coping contribution toward academic stress is 3,8%. Whereas, the result of emotion focused coping R square = 0,009, F = 1,791, dan p = 0,182 (p>0,05) showed that there is no significant Influence of emotion focused coping toward academic stress.
